The agreement between you and smilepenny. Short, and in the same English as the rest of the app - you should not need a solicitor to find out what you have agreed to.
smilepenny is a budgeting app. It shows you what you have spent, what you planned to spend, and the gap between the two. It can read your bank transactions, with your permission, so you do not have to type them in.
It is not a bank, it does not hold your money, and it cannot move money. It gives you no financial advice: everything it shows is a description of what has already happened, and every decision about your money remains yours.
You sign in with a link sent to your email address. There is no password, so anyone with access to that inbox can access your account - keeping it secure is your responsibility.
You must be at least 18 and resident in the United Kingdom. One account is for one person; please do not share it.
Bank connections use open banking through Plaid, who are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. You authorise the connection at your own bank, not here, and smilepenny never sees your banking credentials.
The access is read-only. smilepenny can see accounts, cards and transactions you consent to share, and can do nothing else with them.
Under open banking rules your consent lasts 90 days, after which your bank will ask you to confirm it again. You can disconnect at any time in Settings, which ends the access immediately and hands the permission back to your bank.
Use the app for your own budgeting. Do not try to break it, overload it, or use it to access anybody else's information.
The figures it shows depend on what your bank reports and what you enter. Check anything that matters before acting on it - a pending transaction can change, and a type can be wrong until you correct it.
You can leave whenever you like, without asking us. Settings has a Delete my account button, and it does exactly that: your budget, your transactions and any bank connection all go, and we hand the bank's permission back on the way out. It cannot be undone and we cannot recover it for you, so download your data first if you might want it.
You can download everything we hold at any time, from the same place.
We may suspend an account being used to harm the service or another person. If we ever close smilepenny down we will give notice, and your data will still be yours to download until we do.
smilepenny is provided as it is. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not liable for decisions you take based on it.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
